In the year 1971, on the base of resolutions of the Cuban-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission for the economic collaboration and scientific-technique, was created the Horticultural Experimental Property “Liliana Dimitrova” with the objective of evaluating the production scale and the technologies that existed in Bulgaria for the production of vegetables. Initially this property was in the municipality of Güira of Mane, in the county of Havana.

Due to the necessity of the production of receiving more integral answers to the existent problems, in the year 1973 proceeded to transform the property in a Horticultural Experimental Station and to change it objectives. This way begins to work in such disciplines as: genetic improvement, agrotecnia, mechanization, vegetable sanity and watering. Later on it assimilated the activities in vegetables, grains and potato of the Experimental Station of Seeds “The Tomeguín.”

Already in the year 1976, created the first five-year plan of investigations, the station participates as head of six of the eight topics corresponding to horticultural cultivations, starting from those which, achievements of importance were obtained for the production of vegetables in the country. Giving execution to emanated orientations of the high address of the State and of the Ministry of the Agriculture, the Experimental Station was transferred in the year 1981 to the municipality of Quivicán, Havana, in areas aledañas to the Company of Several Cultivations “April 19”, specialized in the horticultural production, in order to narrow more the bonds investigation-production.

Later on on the base of the Net of Investigations of Several Cultivations, and for the Resolution Not 429 of the year 1985 of the Ministry of the Agriculture, the current Institute of Horticultural Investigations is constituted “Liliana Dimitrova” (IIHLD). The Institute of Horticultural Investigations “Liliana Dimitrova”, it integrates the System of Investigations of the Address of Science and Technique of the Ministry of the Agriculture, being also subordinated in the methodological order to the Ministry of Science and Technology and Environment (CITMA), being member of the western Scientific Pole from 1992. The IIHLD is also one of the centers coauspiciadores of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.
